Week 4 • Exhortations & Thanks • Philippians 4: 8- 9, 14 -16NIV • TAKEOFF… • Go around the room and have each person share something that makes them different from anyone in the group, like, “I’ve never left the state I was born in” or, I am one of ten kids.” • DROPPING IN: • Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles.Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only; for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need. • BIG SURF: • Why does Paul point to himself as an example to follow? • Read Phil 1:15 – 18; 3:2 and 17 - 18? • What would Paul say to the church today about leisure time, reading matter, R-rated movies and football all weekend long on TV? • What would he suggest? • 3. Why or why not? • Describe times in your life when you felt alone? • Who was there to help you through it? • Have there been people in your life who have been unselfish in their generosity toward you? • Who do you need to thank? • 5. From what you’ve learned in the study of Philippians, what do you consider life-changing?
