MJC’s SMEDivision Outreach Efforts Science, Math and Engineering Current Programs Conducted by Volunteers from SME Faculty and Faculty Emeritus MAPS(Modesto Area Partners in Science) Monthly free community science presentations SEEK (Science Educational Encounters for Kids) suspended during move to West Campus Science Colloquium - Weekly on Wed. at 4 pm in SCI 208 MJC Earthday (in cooperation with other divisions) SME Division Dean Brian Sanders New Science Center to finish construction on West Campus in late Spring, 2013, will include Great Valley Museum, planetarium and observatory.

  3. 1. 2. This is an educational presentation and most members of the audience are here to listen and learn. Please do not use the next hour for social interaction. 3. If you must exit the room during the presentation, please use one of the rear doors and gently close it. The front doors are noisy and we request that use of the front doors be avoided. 4. At the conclusion of the formal presentation, there will be a 3 minute break to allow people to leave. However, please recognize that the question and answer period that will take place after the break is usually very interesting and informative. 5. We hope you enjoy the presentation and learn from it.

  10. Sunday, 01/27/13 Contactstarring Jodie Foster as Dr. Ellie Arroway. Speaker: Astronomer Dr. Jill Tarter was the long-time director of the SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) program at U.C. Berkeley, and on whose work Carl Sagan's novel Contact was based, as was Ellie Arroway, the lead (Jodie Foster) character in the film.  Science on Screen: A new educational and fun science and movie activity organized by retired and current MJC faculty (including several MAPS committee members) and the State Theater brings an opportunity that you need to experience. Four science related movies will be shown at the State on Sunday afternoons. Preceding each movie , an expert will introduce the movie. Following the movie, there will be a question and answer period led by the expert.
