  11. FORESHADOWING Foreshadowing- hints or suggestions that the author gives early in the story letting the reader know what will happen later in the story. In other words, we get a hint or have an idea that somethingwill occur later in the story.

  12. WAYS TO USE FORESHADOWING IN YOUR WRITING.

  13. In your writing foreshadowing can be done quite easily. It’s not difficult and is actually quite simple. You can achieve this in your writing by writing one or two simple sentences. Here are some examples…

  14. Foreshadowing can be achieved by simply having your 3rd person omniscient narrator mention it. Let me show you…

  15. Examples: After eating breakfast, brushing her teeth, getting dressed, and heading off to school, it seemed like this was going to be just another ordinary Tuesday. If only she knew that that could not have been further from the truth.

  16. Never in a million years could he have expected what was going to happen later that afternoon.

  17. “A book, an innocent book. I’ve read hundreds in my life. What harm can this one do?” Julianna said to herself. If she only knew then what she knows now. But some lessons are learned the hard way.

  18. “I found it! I can’t believe it exists, and I found it!! A magical harp that grants wishes!” Andrew exclaimed. Little did Andrew know that sometimes blessings can be curses in disguise.

  19. Foreshadowing through Characterization Another way to use foreshadowing is through describing character. Perhaps a character has a particular physical attribute that can be mentioned early in the story and will become very important later in the story. (Scar on forehead-- Harry Potter)

  20. Or maybe a particular character has a unique behavior that will be mentioned early and then become an important part of the way your plot unfolds and story ends. (Chase—”Pets”)
