Required Grades and Test Scores • 15-unit core GPA of at least a 3.0 AND an ACT score of at least 21/SAT score of at least 980 OR • Un-weighted cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 AND class rank in the top 33.3% OR • ACT score of at least 24/ SAT score of at least 1090 OR • 15-unit core GPA of at least a 3.0 OR an ACT score of at least 22/SAT score of at least 1020 AND answers to the application questions

  3. 15-Unit Core Curricular Requirements • Four units English • Grammar, Composition, and Literature • Three units Mathematics • Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and above • Three units History and Citizenship Skills • Must include one unit of American History and two units from the subjects of History, Economics, Geography, Civics and/or Non-Western Culture • Three units lab science • Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, Physics, or any lab science certified by the school district • Two units of other courses selected from any of the sections above or computer science or foreign language

  4. AP/CLEP Policy • OSU accepts Advanced Placement Program (AP) and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) for college-level credit. • Must have a minimum AP exam score of three

Evaluation Process • The Admission Committee considers quantitative and qualitative factors. • Quantitative scores generate about seventy percent of the total admission score for all applicants. • Grades (GPA), standardized test scores, and academic rigor determine the quantitative scores. • Qualitative scores generate about thirty percent of the admission score. • Background, experience, letters of recommendation, and personal interviews determine the qualitative scores.

My Major: Veterinary Technology cont. • Degrees Available • Associate in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology • Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology • Time To Finish Degree • The total degree curriculum is sixty-nine credit hours. • The core curriculum has forty-four credit hours that are spread out over five semesters and a summer preceptorship. • Program prerequisite courses usually add about two semesters, and students may choose to take other general education courses. • Students are usually able to complete their degree in about three years.

Perceptorships • A perceptorship is an occupational experience between a student, OSU-OKC, and a veterinary medical practice. • The veterinary medical practice is chosen by the student and approved by the vet-tech director. • The summer perceptorship is an eight-week program that is made up of a minimum of 320 clock-hours of in-clinic training by a licensed veterinarian.
