Elements of Superior Introductions • The following elements are 1-2 sentences each… • HOOK the reader - Open with something compelling BUT it must be directly related to prompt/piece of lit/passage– not fluffy • Imagery related to the prompt • Universal association • Meaningful quotation • CONTEXT- Blend prompted task with author’s name, title, and relevant characters/plot • THESIS- See Thesis Statement Notes • WE WILL PRACTICE ALL ELEMENTS TODAY…

Head Paper: The Metamorphosis AP Writing Practice • STEP ONE: PROMPT ANALYSIS • On a new page (skip back of last page) glue the prompt: • The Metamorphosis: A critic has said that one important measure of a superior work of literature is its ability to produce in the reader a healthy confusion of pleasure and disquietude. The Metamorphosis produces this "healthy confusion." Write an essay in which you explain the sources of the "pleasure and disquietude" experienced by the readers of the work. • Task – (Write these Qs down) • Question: What is the prompt ASKING me to do?
