Education Unnati - Introduction • A non-formal school targeting children of construction laborers • Started on 26th January 2007 • Located at Jharsa Village, Gurgaon (Haryana) • Has a regular teacher (Suman Ji); Around 35 students study in two batches • Classes are held 6 days a week for 4 hours everyday • Refreshments are given everyday

  6. Education Unnati - RSEP • Regular School Education Program • 4 children admitted to a private school (Vivek High School, Sector39, Gurgaon) for the session 2008-09 • Education funded by sponsorship scheme • Sponsors from AID-Gurgaon volunteers as well as outside

Education Unnati – RSEP (Childrens’ Profiles contd…) • Tara, Vinod and Pankaj – admitted to Class 1 • Sheetal admitted to LKG • Classes started from 15th April, 2008 • Sanayak and Amanraj – recently admitted to a regular school (Pallavanjali Institute for the Actualisation of Individual Potential)

  9. Education Unnati’s Nutrition Program • Monthly budget INR 5000 ($103) • All students covered under the program • Bananas and milk with nutrition mixture • Mixture recipe contains almonds, cashew-nuts, walnuts, roasted chanas and sugar • Funded by RBS, Gurgaon till March 2009

Education Disha • Second school (first was Prayas) on the concept of Unnati • Started on 26th January, 2009 • Located at Jharsa Village, Sector 39, Gurgaon (within a mile of Unnati) • Has a regular teacher (Devender Ji); Initial strength of around 50 • Classes are held 6 days a week for 4 hours everyday

Education Possible areas of funding from AID-Atlanta • Disha – basic annual recurring costs of $1484 (INR 72000) plus one time setup cost of $72 (INR 3500) • Disha – additional programs like RSEP and Nutrition (costs to be determined) • Unnati – Nutrition program (based on the status of funding after March, 2009 from RBS) • Full timer for AID-Gurgaon (interviews being held) – approx salary of $2475 per annum (INR 1,20,000) • Gurgaon Beggar Free campaign – planning stage (no estimates as of now) • Dormitory for HIV infected children – in collaboration with another NGO (proposal from the NGO)
