  3. MentoringTheological concepts

  4. Life of Jesus Christ - model for Christians worthy of imitation • "Follow me" is the call to us in our spiritual life. • Our life is to be like Christ (Luke 6:40); obey His commands (Matt.28:19-20).

  5. Paul stresses the imitative nature of mentoring (1 Thess.1:6-7), (2 Tim.2:2); • Predestined to be conformed to the likeness of Jesus (Rom.8:29), • Attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ (Eph.4:13).

  6. Christlikenessis a growth process - mature and increase our God-given capacities. • Paul also emphasizes the "handing down" aspect (1Cor.11:23-24) - • - the transmission of teaching from one person to another, past to future; • - passing of the faith and His grace; handing down wisdom & skills through generations.

  7. Spiritual formation - requires mentorship of the heart; a relationship with a teacher of life; a way of life that is formed; a life shared by people who have learned that spiritual music is sung in its own way. • Nurturing our lives of faith - spending time with experienced and wise mentors.

  8. Togetherness - community of believers helping each other in spiritual maturity; discover our identity in the context of community; learn best together with help of others.

  9. Mentoring - investment in the life of others • Mentoring - a relationship built up with a person used by God to: • - change the course of your life, • - redirecting your path at a critical moment, • - have a lasting personal influence & impression in your life.

  10. Mentoring is a life changing life, or life shaping life, relationship for the benefit of each other, • - in the light of the work of the Holy Spirit, • - for the glory of God. • "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" (Prov.27:17)

  11. Motivating factors of Mentorship: • - to promote personal growth • - to provide a model for mentoree to follow • - to help mentoree reach his goal more efficiently • - to influence mentoree so that he would in turn influence others (2 Tim.2:2).

  12. Mentoring is a life-guiding , problem-solving, and goal-orienting activity, • with the ultimate outcome of pointing others to the direction of Jesus Christ.
