  3. HSPA SUMMARY (Special Education) * MHS passing rate for LAL- 91% DFG passing rate for LAL- 70% State passing rate for LAL- 56% * MHS passing rate for Math- 53% DFG passing rate for Math- 43% State passing rate for Math- 33%

  4. Conclusions • This year, MHS has out-performed the DFG average in LAL , Math and Special Education • Over the last three years, the HSPA Remediation model has been successful (91% success rate in LAL and 78% in Math) • Principal’s Commendation for those students earning Advanced Proficient status will continue • Emphasis on employing rubrics to grade student writing. Collaboration between departments • UBD curriculum writing/articulation has been key in improving instruction and test scores

Advanced Placement Testing • The Advanced Placement Testing program recognizes high school students who have demonstrated college level achievement through AP courses and exams. • The American Council on Education recommends that an AP Exam grade of three(3) or higher be awarded 3 semester hours of college credit. • MHS mandates that all students enrolled in A.P. classes take the subject area test.

Advanced Placement Testing • Since the mandate that all students enrolled in A.P. classes take the exam, the number of total A.P. tests has risen from 108 (2007) to an average of 156 (2008-10) while the average score is comparable(3.27 to 3.13). • The percentage of “4’s” and “5’s” has risen from 28% to 41% (2010) • In 2010, fourteen (14) MHS students earned A.P. Scholar Awards, including two students who earned the A.P. Scholar with Distinction Award, the highest number in school history.
