  1. A Guide to Wine Glasses

  2. Irrespective of what type of wine you prefer, it certainly has a specific type of glass to relish it from. Wine glasses are tailor-made for each type of wine. As a fine taster, you have to know which kind of glass is required for the type of wine you have chosen. Before you uncork the bottle, select the perfect crystal wine glasses to enhance the experience of wine tasting.

  3. Features • The structure of a wine glass is important. Before choosing the glass, know the common features of all kinds of glass. Wine glasses generally comprise: • Base - This is for stabilising the foot of the glass. The base is located at the end of the stem. • Stem - The narrow stretch of crystal that provides a holding point to the drinkers. This stretch connects the bowl with the base. Stemless wine glasses do not have a stem and look more like a round tumbler. • Bowl - This is the vessel for the liquid. The bowl has to be designed spacious enough to swirl the wine inside without spilling from the brims and should also provide the right amount of air for oxidation purposes. The aromatic factor of the wine also depends on the bowl construction.

  4. Rim - The edge of the bowl from where the wine makes contact with the lips. Crystal wine glasses have a thin rim for an enhanced tasting experience and ease of drinking.

  5. Why the need for different shapes? You might find yourself asking why you need different types of glasses for wine tasting. This is because choosing the right crystal wine glass is essential for your drinking etiquette. The glass is also responsible for improving the taste of the liquid. The size and shape of the bowl have a direct impact on the flavour and determine how much air is let into the wine surface. It is because of the oxygen contact that the aromas are released. There should be a significant gap between the level of the wine and the rim so that there is room for the aromas to gather and thereby enhance the taste. From a contemplative glass of wine after dinner to celebrating to a champagne toast, crystal wine glasses set the mood and tone for every occasion. Finding the right wine glass from a range of crystal glassware can truly elevate the level of wine tasting and make you feel like a wine connoisseur.
