Prešov. History of our town. Birth of town. The first reference about P rešov was in the document of Belo IV. in 1247. Prešov recieved its seignories 28th January 1299 from Ugrian king Ondrej III.

The copy of document is saved in National District Office in Prešov. • Prešov rised on thecostofriver Torysa.

Symbolsof Prešov • City coatofarms - itincludes 3 redroses and silverandredstripes • City flag – itisstripedwithsilver and redcolorwithsnipfromthelowerside. • Smallsignumissmaller (36/22mm) than big signum (45mm). Thissignumisusing by mayorwhensome big eventishappening. Smallsignumcanbeused by municipalauthoritytoo.

  4. Threecoatsofarmsof Prešov • Prešov has had threecoatsofarmsduringtheages • Thefirstcoatofarms had 3 redroses in thewhitefield,and twosilver(white) and tworedstripes. Onlyverbaldescription has beenremained and theminiature has badquality . • Thesecondcoatofarmswasadvanced version offirstcoatofarms. Thebasicwassimiliarbut in leftcornertherewasdisplayedblackeagle holding a strawberrywithtwogreen and threeredfruit in hisclaws.Itwasusedonly 10 years. • Thethirdcoatofarmswascompletely new. In first and fourthbluefieldsisgolden(yellow) lionhinging on thecolumn and in thethird and secondsilver(white) fieldiseaglefromthesecondcoatsofarms. • NowdaysThefirstcoatofarmsisused.

  5. Prešov’s slaughters • Or Prešov’sBloodycourt was special judge that foung guilty 24 townsmen and thanes from Prešov and neighborhood. All of them were charged of participation in preparing new conspirancy. Duringtheinvestigation, theyweretortured and thensufferedsorely. • The rebels were obviated bygeneralcount AntonioCaraffa who arrived from Naplesin 1687 and had closed the gates of town immediately not to escape somebody. He set specific tribunalagainsttherebelsto judge them and he was the chairman. • The first judgements were sentenced 5thMarch 1687. On thegiantwoodenscaffold 30 executionerswerepreparedwithswords.   6. Fires and plague • Thetownwasalsoaffected by naturaldisasters • 1886-1887 highdestructivefiresaffected Prešov • 1696 and 1710 therewas big plague and the most ofcitizensdied. In 1751 wasbuiltplaguecolumn in memoryofvictims.

Duct • Although Prešov had manymineralfountains, sinceit has uprised, citizens had big problemswithfreshwater. • Theywerepumpingwaterfromrivers and spruitsaroundbut in 19.century therewere so manypeople in Prešov, thatfreshwaterbecamereallygreatproblem. • In 1939 and 1940 situationwascriticalastherehavebeenepidemicofshipfever. Engineersstarted to discuss and theconsequencewastown s ductwhichisnowwoking over 50 years.
