Education and Employment • Most women weren’t allowed to have education. • However, the rich and powerful were able to receive some education. • Most women stayed home and took care of kids, did housework, and shopped. • Employment opportunities for women was very limited. • Employment depended on your status and class.

  3. Women's clothing • Special fabrics and colors of clothing were reserved for nobles. • Punishment for wearing prohibited clothing would be fines or jail time.

  4. Marriage and Divorce • People were married in churches. • The ceremony was held three weeks after the announcement. • At the ceremony, there was feasting and music and dancing. • Before 1670, a married couple could divorce if they could prove to the courts that the marriage was never legal in the first place. • It wasn’t legal if there was insanity, heresy, incest, or impotence.

Woman’s views on society • Very few women wrote about their opinions, except in diaries. • Women were able to speak their minds but their beliefs of society were shaped by men. • They were raised to believe their role was to uphold society, and raise the family. most women didn’t question that.
