Objective and approach • To support countries to attain sustainable, uninterrupted supply of affordable, quality, safe, efficacious medicines and their appropriate use • Collaboration with other WHO Departments and partners at country, Regional and global level • Development of indicators and tools for monitoring and evaluation of procurement and supply management including household surveys • Available draft tool has been useful to countries in assessing ARV supply management and use

  3. Specific Country work on HIV Medicines • TCM/QSM joint project on reducing use of substandard and counterfeit ARVs in selected AFRO countries. (1st phase in Cameroon, DRC, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania & Uganda). Results positive and report being finalized. • TCM/QSM supported some African countries develop capacity on ARV quality analysis in a WHO collaboration centre in South Africa • Supported a National workshop on the management of ARVs in Zambia organized by MOH/WHO involving partners such as MSH, DELIVER etc (June 2006) • A TOT workshop on management of essential medicines, including those for HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria in Nigeria in July 2006. Funds made available to follow up training in targeted states • Missions to Ethiopia and Uganda: discussed with other NPOs on collaboration on medicines work

  4. Collaboration at regional level • TCM staff and EDM/NPOS participated to HIV/AIDS PSM regional workshops and assisted in finalization of the PSM plans for Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone and Senegal • Regional workshop with partners to develop regional framework for PSM in Brazzaville, June 2006 • Workshop with Pacific Island Countries, Fiji, August 2006: introduced tool which will give an overview of procurement and supply structures, mechanisms and needs in countries. • Strengthen collaboration in the future with Golf Cooperation Council (EMRO), Strategic Fund, AFRO sub regional economic blocs (SADC,UEMOA, CEMAC etc.)
