Share about how your participation in Volunteer Week, or another volunteer experience, was initially “sparked.” This will encourage others to follow your example. Talk about the following: When did you first become involved in Volunteer Week/or other volunteer project? What caused you to get involved? What was happening in your life at the time? Think about the cause that your volunteer service supported. Why is that cause important to you? How can you encourage others to get involved?

    5. 5 About the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation Mission The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation seeks to help communities and enrich lives by combining the collective strength of the industry to provide grants, volunteer service and leadership. Vision To set the standard for corporate giving, and serve as the charity of choice and philanthropic voice of the insurance industry.

    6. 6 About the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation The Foundation was established in 1994 by a small group of insurance executives in Northern California who wanted to increase support of their local communities by combining their resources and working together. Since it’s inception, the Foundation has granted over $18 million and over 90,000 hours of volunteer service to worthy nonprofit organizations throughout California, with a focus on programs that support children, health, safety and educational causes. Our supporters, donors and volunteers come from insurance companies, reinsurance companies, agents & brokerages, and strategic partners of the industry.

    7. 7 About Volunteer Week Volunteer Week has been presented by the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation throughout the state of California since 1998. Volunteer Week is the largest community involvement program offered in the insurance industry. Volunteer teams of insurance executives, employees, their family members and industry partners are matched with nonprofit agencies in their local communities to provide three or more hours of service during a concentrated week. Volunteer Week has generated over 86,000 hours of service across California. In 2007 alone, over 2,000 insurance industry representatives throughout the state donated over 12,000 hours in one week through the Volunteer Week program.

    8. 8 2008 Volunteer Week Program Dates: Volunteer Projects: Saturday, October 18 through Saturday, October 25 NEW Elements: More teams/volunteers, more projects and include new regions. Goal to increase program by 30%. Sign up today! Sample Projects: Hosting parties at Shriners Children’s Hospitals (Los Angeles and Sacramento) Filling boxes and distributing food at local Food Banks Renovating nonprofit facilities Restoring natural habitat Working with seniors or the developmentally disabled Reading with children Many more!     9. 9 Team Leader Role (Introduce yourself as your company’s Team Leader) Each company/office location participating in Volunteer Week identifies a Team Leader to coordinate their volunteers and projects with the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation. Complete materials and instructions will be provided to help Team Leaders with the following responsibilities: Serve as the main point of contact for the Foundation and nonprofit agency Register volunteer team(s) and select project(s) Promote the Volunteer Week program in workplace and other company locations Recruit volunteers Communicate the ‘message’ of Volunteer Week Organize and communicate project logistics (eg. shifts, transportation, materials, etc.)
