  36. ISSUES • Review Mission observed that there is shortage of manpower, large vacancies of Noon Meal Organizers, Cooks and Helpers, which need to be filled up urgently. This has been reported by the MI (IIT Madras) also • In all the districts Kanyakumari,Thoothukudi.and Theni the quantity of food grain supplied was not as per the marked indicated weight in all schools. • One of the reasons for low off-take of the MDMS is that same type of food is served daily. The quality of meal was average in almost all schools observed both by review Mission and Monitoring Institute. Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India

Contd… • Thoothukudi District-In the case of PUMS, Vedanatham, most children are dropping out of the MDM scheme as the quality of food grains is bad. • Health check did not happen in school in forest area. • TheniDsitrict- In the case of PUPS Arockiamathanagar, no fund has been released from 20th Dec 2010 up till now. • In the case of GTR-PS in Kanyakumari district, there is no MDM scheme.

  38. Contd… • Review Mission recommended to provide eggs to all children (16381) in (451) NCLP schools in all the districts as these children are most malnourished and needy ones. • Some unsettling issues in the quality of the kitchen shed cum store in schools in all the three districts.Food is prepared either in open space or in near by school or in damaged kitchen • There is a need to speed up the construction of kitchen-cum-stores only 3093 constructed till 3 Quarter.
