  1. SMP NEGERI 3 PONTIANAK RISA HARIDZA, S.Pd PHYSICS

  2. INTRODUCTION PROPERTIES OF MATTER

  3. STANDARD OF COMPETENCE / BASIC COMPETENCY Standard of Competency 3. Understanding the element, compound, and mixture. Basic Competency • 3.4.Describe physical and chemical properties of a substance.

  4. INDICATOR • Through simple experiment, students can compare the physical and chemical properties of a substance.

  5. OBJECTIVE Students are being able to: • Provide the examples of physical properties. • Provide the examples of chemical properties. • Describe the physical properties of a substance. • Describe the chemical properties of a substance.

  6. CONTENT • Physical Properties • Definition Properties possessed by a matter when the matter does not change into a new matter. • Example • Density, form of substance, boiling point, freezing point, colour, solubility, electrical conductivity, heat conductivity, solidity, aroma, and taste.

  7. CONTENT • Chemical Properties • Definition Properties of an object relating to the formation of a new substance. • Example: Flammable, corrosive, corrosible, decomposable, explosive, poisonous, acidic, and basic.

  8. CONTENT • Extensive Properties • Definition Matter properties influenced by the size, shape, and quantity of substance (matter). • Example: Mass and volume

  9. CONTENT • Intensive Properties • Definition Matter properties which are not influenced by the size, shape, and quantity of substance. • Example: Boiling point and density

  10. PROBLEM • Refer to your chemistry book. Page 219 – 224. Comprehension Exercise and Evaluation 5.
