  1. Judas Iscariot Positive Lessons from a Negative Man

  2. What’s In A Name? • There are some Bible characters that you just don’t name your children after: Jezebel and Judas • Not every Judas mentioned in scripture is bad (Mt. 13:55; Lk. 6:16 / Jn. 14:22 / Acts 1:13; Acts 9:11; Acts 15:27, 32)

  3. Judas Iscariot • The Judas that is remembered is the one who betrayed the Lord (Mt. 10:4; 26:25; 27:3; Mk. 3:9; Jn. 11:4) • What good lessons can come from the man who betrayed the Lord?

  4. Judas Iscariot Lesson 1: Don’t let your “small” vice become your big downfall • Judas went from being a petty thief (Jn. 12:4-6; 13:29), to betraying the Lord for 30 pieces of silver (Lk. 6:16) • “Small” things like lying, stealing, cheating, profanity, alcohol, gambling, porno., etc.

  5. Judas Iscariot Lesson 2: Don’t give the devil a place in your heart • Judas let the devil into his heart (Jn. 13:2, 27; Lk. 22:3); was called a “devil” by Jesus (Jn. 6:70-71) • Make no room in your heart for the devil (Eph. 4:27; Jas. 4:7)

  6. Judas Iscariot Lesson 3: Don’t give up on yourself • Judas did something terribly wrong and then gave up (Mt. 27:3-7) • Don’t give up and quit like Judas, be like Peter and come back (Lk. 22:32, 62; Acts 1:15; 2:14)

  7. Judas Iscariot Lesson 4: Don’t think that past association with Jesus alone will keep you faithful • Judas had the distinct privilege of being one of “the twelve” with Jesus (Mt. 10:1-4; Jn. 12:4; 18:2) • Have Christ in you, not just around you (Rom. 8:10; 2 Cor. 13:5; Col. 1:27; 3:16)

  8. Christ In You • Bible class: not just memory work / activities, but inner transformation • Assembly: not just physical attendance, but regular participation inside and service outside • Conversion: not just others, but my own family

  9. Christ In You • Choices: not just letting them have their way, but demanding what is right • Dating & Marriage: not just a “good” person, but a faithful Christian

  10. Judas Iscariot Lesson 5: Don’t fall from your high calling in life • Judas fell from his high office (Acts 1:15-26; note v. 17, 20, 25) • Realize and remember your high calling and always walk there throughout life (2 Tim. 1:9; Heb. 3:1)
