What is the different friction pile foundations used in structures?

Friction piles help transfer the load from the structure to the soil via the frictional force that forms between the surface of the pile and the soil surrounding the pile.

Contact Us:
100 7th Avenue SW Attalla, AL 35954
Mailing Address: P.O. 1. What is the different friction pile foundations used in structures?

 2. An Introduction • Ideally, Friction piles help transfer the load from the structure to the soil via the frictional force that forms between the surface of the pile and the soil surrounding the pile. This type of pile foundation is used when a hard layer is available at a significant depth and construction of an end-bearing pile becomes unaffordable.

 3. Working of Friction Pile • Friction piles work like a wedge in the soil. These piles, also known as floating piles, with the shear stress along the sides of the pile, earn most of their bearing capacity, and they are best used in places where the under layers of soil are complex and are too deep to reach easily. Friction piles transmit the bundle from the loose topsoil above to the soil below by friction between the surface of the pile and the soil.

 4. Types of Pile Foundation • Bored Piling. • Driven Piling. • Screw Piling. • Mini Piling. • Sheet Piling.

 5. Usage of Friction Pile • When the groundwater level is high. • Heavy and non-uniform loads are imposed. • Other types of foundations are costlier. • When the soil at hollow depth is compressible. • Because of its location near the river bed or seashore, and more, and when there is the possibility of scouring, • When canal or deep drainage systems is nearby the structure.

 6. Conclusion • Friction piles usually consist of two types of piling options: an H-pile and other wide flange beams. H-piles are broader as they are deep inside and have the same thickness in the rim and web. Browning Enterprise, Inc. is an elite organization in the steel processing industry that manufactures and supplies deep foundation steel iron friction piles in Alabama.
