  2. Name Tent Use blank sheet of paper to make name tent Front: First Name Back: School Name

  3. NORM • Participate actively • Ask questions • Learn by doing • Set your own learning into action

  4. AGENDA 1.Welcome Remarks & Norms 2. Data Analysis: Gr 3, 4 & 5 3. Develop action plan: to address secondary benchmarks and crunch time plan 4. Institutional Partners (GALS & Weather Day) 5. 5. What Kind of Information can Data Provide us? Data can… provide feedback on the past and provide a basis to begin planning for the future

  6. Importance of Data • We live in a data driven society. • Data is used to make decisions at all levels of government and businesses. • Education is no exception. We are in the business of educating our future leaders. • In education, we need to be able to disaggregate assessment data at the level where we can make a difference in a child’s life. We should be able to say that John Doe needs help in understanding “Properties of Minerals”

  7. Florida ContinuousImprovement Model

  8. Disaggregation of Grade 5 science Interim Assessment • Q1 Benchmarks Addressed on Fall IA • Q2 Benchmarks Addresses on Winter IA • Progress Monitoring Tool Department of Mathematics and Science

  9. Grade 5 Quarter 1 Benchmarks Assessed on Fall Interim 2012 Department of Mathematics and Science

  10. Grade 5 2012 Baseline vs Fall IA (Results by Benchmarks) Department of Mathematics and Science

  11. Grade 5 2012 Baseline, Fall IA & Winter IA (Results by Benchmarks) Department of Mathematics and Science

  12. Grade 5 Quarter 2 Benchmarks Assessed on Winter Interim 2013 Department of Mathematics and Science

  13. Grade 5 2012 Baseline vs 2013 Winter IA (Results by Benchmarks) Department of Mathematics and Science Cut Scores

  14. 2012 GRADE 5 SCIENCE FALL INTERIM ASSESSMENT RESULTS *Legend: Q1 & Q2= Quarter 1 & 2 Benchmarks NOS: Nature of Science PS = Physical Science LS = Life Science ES = Earth Science

  15. Progress Monitoring Tool • Purpose: Track progress of teaching and learning by monitoring achievement on NGSSS benchmarks. • Useful to track changes in performance by benchmarks from baseline to Fall IA and to Winter IA. • Great tool to plan intervention or to plan for crunch time support. • 2013 Grade 5 Science Winter Interim Results • Progress Monitoring Tool 2012-2013

  16. Baseline vs Winter Interim • Analyze changes by benchmarks • Use the teacher debriefing protocol to analyze your class or school data • Use the grade level debriefing protocol to compare your class performance to overall school performance.

  17. Report Builder in Edusoft • Retrieve report builder for 2012 Gr 5 Science Baseline, 2012 Fall Interim and 2013 Winter IA including Ed Groups by class list. • Export the result to excel and save the file. • Look at student performance on each by benchmark on each assessment. What is evident in this analysis? • REPORT BUILDER • Edusoft Tutorial

  18. Data Chats • Sample Data Chats form • Student Name and ID • Math FCAT: Achievement Level and DSS • Reading FCAT: Achievement Level and DSS • Science Assessment data: • Baseline: _____ Monthly ____ Fall Interim ___ • Winter Interim ______ • Student Goals:___________________________ • Teacher Comment_______________________ • ___________________________________________

  19. Comparative Performance on 2012 Quarter 1 Assessment (K-4)

  20. Quarter 2 Assessment Results *Grade 5 Interim assesses all 25 annually assessed benchmarks Grades K-4 only assessed Quarter 2 benchmarks

  21. Quarterly Assessment Results K-52012-2013 • Quarter 1 Results QUARTER 1 RESULTS QUARTER 2 RESULTS **Cut score for Gr 5 Fall IA = 51% *Cut score for Gr 5 Winter IA= 53% satisfactory

  22. WHAT’S NEW • After FCAT 2.0 scores were released, MDCPS correlated Interim scores to FCAT scale scores to set cut scores for proficiency levels for interims. (Winter & Fall cut scores) • After FCAT 2.0 scores were released, DOE develop cut scores for achievement levels. • (Achievement Levels Descriptors) • Achievement Levels Values

  23. CRUNCH TIME OPTIONS • Essential Labs • Extended Learning Modules • Science Camp (Rotation) • Family Science Night Saturday Academy • GIZMOS (regular scheduled) • FCAT Explorer • Discovery Education • Jeopardy • Online games (websites) • Refer to Pacing Guide Quarter 4 - Topic XVII for resource links. • Test Preparation (Data Review – Benchmark Focus) • Bell Ringers (FL Achieves/FOCUS) • Intervention (before, during, and/or afterschool) • Pull out groups • IAN / Science Journals • FCAT Vocabulary (Item Specs. Glossary) • FCAT Coach, Ladders to Success, J & J Boot Camp Hands on Technology

  24. Action Plan • Develop an action for Grade 5 to address: • 1. List strongest benchmarks (Winter IA) • 2. List weakest benchmarks (Winter IA) • 3. Identify number of students: Satisfactory, Limited (Bubble) and Insufficient Progress • 3. A plan to address secondary benchmarks, including how you will group your students. • 4. Instructional Plan to implement during crunch time • Gr 5 Science Winter Interim Cut Scores • Satisfactory: Raw score (36-68) (53% or higher) • Limited: Raw score (33-35) (49-51%) • Insufficient: Raw score (0-32) (0 – 47%)
