  2. MAGNUS EFFECT • Magnus Force – the lift force generated by a spinning ball. • Magnus Effect – deviation in the direction of a spinning object towards the direction of the spin

  3. A spinning object increases the speed of the fluid on one side and decreases it on the other. • Bernoulli’s principle states this will generate lift. • The Magnus force created causes the object to deviate in the direction of the spin. This is known as the Magnus effect.

  4. Surface Unevenness • Cricket ball – players will polish one side of the ball to assist in movement of the ball. • The air will flow uninterrupted over the smooth side of the ball. Turbulent air is at lower pressure the smooth so this difference will cause the ball to swing.
