  2. Welcome • I willexplain the Reading and Math standards thatwillbetaughtduring the 2nd 9 weeksgradingperiod. • I willshareideas for workingwithyourchildat home. • I willaddress parent questions and concerns.

  3. Math • Studentswill skip count by 2s, 5s, and 10s • Studentswillfindrepeating patterns on the number line, addition table, and hundredschart

  4. Math Use a hundreds chart to find number patterns, practice counting and numeral recognition, addition and subtraction.

  5. Math • Studentswillrepresentwholenumber up to 100 on a number line • Studentswill use the number line to createvisualrepresentations of sequences (such as evennumbers, tens, multiples of five) • Studentswillunderstand addition as ‘’countingon’’ and subtraction as ‘’counting back’’

  7. Math • Recognize the part-wholerelationship of basic fractions such as ½ and ¼ • ¼ is the same as 1 out of 4 • the bottom number shows the total number of parts • the top number shows how many parts • In this case, 1 out of 4 faces is red.

  8. Math • Studentswilldetermine if a numberiseven or odd by pairingobjects 9 is an odd number because after making “pairs” there is one left over, or odd!

  9. At Home • Use a hundredschart to practice counting, numeral recognition, adding and subtracting • Have yourchildcreate a number line to use in adding and subtracting

  10. At Home • Help yourchild to see ‘real life’ fractions • 3 cans are beans, 1 canis corn3 out of 4 are beans • Representnumberswithobjects and have yourchildmake pairs to see if the numberiseven or odd

  11. Reading • Studentswillidentify and use nouns (singular, plural, possessive and proper) and verbs (correct tense, subject-verb agreement) • Studentswill use capital letterscorrectly • Studentswillform contractions using apostrophes

  14. Reading • Studentswillspell simple wordsusingdevelopingphoneticknowledge, sounds of the alphabet, and simple consonant vowel patterns

  15. At Home • Read and writespellingwordsevery night • Have a ‘mock’ spelling test calling out the words and havingyourchildwritethem • Makeflashcards and practice reading the highfrequencywordseach night

  16. At Home • Read the weekly stories • echoread (youread, yourchildechos the words) • pairedreading (youread a page, yourchildreads a page) • read for fluency (yourchildreadswith correct phrasing and tone, youassistwithunknownwords)

  17. At Home • Check and signyourchild’s agenda each night • Check gradedpapers for difficultiesthatyourchildishavingwithanysubject or specificskill • Complete assignedhomework in a timelymanner and return

  18. At Home Fillyourchild’stoolbox • Crayons • Pencils • Glue • Scissors • Eraser • Tablet or notebook paper • Highlighter
