  4. What is the purpose of functional text? • Functional text helps the reader to: • Follow directions • Solve problems • Perform procedures • Answer questions

  5. Product Information • The purpose of product information is to give the consumer enough information to make an educated decision about their purchase.

  6. Manuals(Technical – Service – Instruction) • A manual is a document containing instructions for installation, operation, use, maintenance, parts list, and support of a machine or system.

  7. Directory • A directory gives directions to a specific location using a map of the building or location.

  8. Menu • In a restaurant, a menu is a presentation of food and beverage offerings.

  9. Schedule • A plan for carrying out a process or procedure, giving lists of intended events and times

  10. Pamphlet • Pamphlets have multiple purposes for both businesses and personal uses. • A company usually designs pamphlets for the purpose of informing clients of products and services. • Political parties use pamphlet printing for relating their message to the public. • A pamphlet, like a flyer, provides information for events such as weddings or church services, or are for simply informing the public of current issues.

  11. Warranties • a written guarantee given to the purchaser of a new appliance, automobile, or other item by the manufacturer or dealer, usually specifying that the manufacturer will make any repairs or replace defective parts free of charge for a stated period of time.

Search Engine • A web search engine is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. • The search results are generally presented in a list of results often referred to as SERPS, or "search engine results pages". • The information may consist of web pages, images, information and other types of files.

  13. Sign • Signs help give directions in a building, on the street, or on a map. • Signs can identify a location such as a restaurant, store or school

  14. Recipe • A set of instructions for preparing a particular dish, including a list of the ingredients required.

Map Legend • A map legend is the little box in the corner of the map. • It contains icons to tell you what is a city and what the populations are. • It also contains icons to help you figure out what is an interstate or county road. • You will also find a legend to assist you in figuring out mileage from one place to another.

  16. Diagram • A simplified drawing showing the appearance, structure, or workings of something

  17. Procedure • An established or official way of doing something. • The RULES set forth for a specific location.
