  1. Mission: To work together as citizen volunteers from Latin America, the Caribbean and the United States to improve the lives of people across the hemisphere.

  2. Partners of the Americas • At the heart of Partners is this “people-to-people” philosophy, which grew out of a 1962 call by President John F. Kennedy for citizens of the Western Hemisphere to work together. Inspired by the challenge, Jim Boren, one of our founders, envisioned a two-way network of volunteer partnerships that would enable everyday people to contribute to the Americas; • Today, Partners has evolved into 120 volunteer chapters linked in 60 partnerships. Chapters in U.S. states form partnerships with chapters in countries or states in Latin America and the Caribbean

Pernambuco-Georgia Partners of the Americas • “The Home of Georgia in Pernambuco” • Founded: 1968, Bi-national Non-Profit status • Expertise: education, business and health; • Partners programs promoted in Pernambuco: • American Fellows • American Business Fellows • Eu sou Voluntário! (Promoting volunteer work)

Business Projects • (2008/2009) – “Muda Pernambuco” Project – leadership program; • (2006/2007) - Promoting American Business Fellows Program, sponsored by US Department of State; • (2006/2007) – Seminar “Business in US” in partnership with American Chamber of Commerce-Recife and the Department of Economic Development of the State of Georgia; • (2005/2008) – Support the “Exporting Assistance Center” in partnership with Commercial Association of the State of Pernambuco (the second oldest business association in Brazil);

Social Projects • (2007/2008) Bombeiro Voluntario! - Emergency Aid Course for volunteers, in partnership with State Fire Department to help on natural disaster and offer community services; • (2006/2007) – Vencer & Caráter Conta! – Professional and character education to young people – street kids have attended character education classes and technical courses at professional centers partners in Recife. The program also features an intership program for those kids; • (2003/2004) - Task-Force to prevent domestic violence and child abuse. Focused on two poor communities in Recife (capital of the State of Pernambuco);

Past events: • Hosting a delegation of University of Pittsburgh teachers – July/2006 • Hosting a delegation of University students from Georgia – June/2006; • Stand at USA Fair in Recife – June/2006; • Visit of the President of Partners of Americas: - Mr. Malcom Butler – Recife, May/2006; • Hosting Sao Paulo-Illionois Partners, July/2005. • Hosting members of Paraíba Connecticut Partners – Recife, June/2005; • Seminar on Volunteership – Recife, June/2005;

Major accomplishments since 1968 • “Voo da Amizade” (friendship flight) between 1972-1983 eleven trips with plane loads of citizens each way, matched families by occupational themes, led to lasting friendships, many of which continue to this day; • Business exchange; • Youth exchange; • University linkage;

Major accomplishments since 1968 • Knowledge in Public Affairs Exchange: • Delegations of public affairs professionals going both ways; • Partnership with Carl Vinson Institute. • Exchange programs in the areas of leadership; • Farmer to Farmer Program; • Financing and operating social projects.

Priorities for 2007-2008 • Business projects: • Promoting Brazil-USA business under Partners network; • Promoting American Fellows and American Business Fellows; • Social projects: • Vencer e Caráter Conta!; • Emergency Aid Course, in partnership with Corpo de Bombeiros de Pernambuco (local fíredepartment); • Volunteer of the Americas Project, including portuguese language program, volunteer and internship opportunities for US students.
