  1. Guidelines for “Out of Bounds” PowerPoint

  2. Topic • Present a proposal via PowerPoint as to ways that we as a class can help bridge the gap between the haves and the have-nots. • Create ways that we can support Mr. Bowser’s mission to make drinking water accessible to everyone.

  3. Guidelines • Must be at least 8 slides • Has to have at least 5 graphics • Incorporate your talent/s (as Elliott did with his art supporting his ultimate mission) into your goal. • Have a mission statement • Include steps as to how you would reach your ultimate goal • Explain how you will know that you have accomplished your goal. • Make a connection with your message and Elliott’s message

  4. Oceans of Hope By: Caitie Burkes

  5. Sample PPT Goal: • Because of my love for writing and passion for peace, I would combine my two interests and compose a poetic speech on raising awareness on the increasing issue of inaccessible water.

  6. Sample PPT (Cont’d) • Steps: • Research water purification crisis • Write a persuasive poetic speech on the topic to raise awareness • Promote the composition by broadcasting it on TV, radio, and internet. • Sell poems and donate profits to relief efforts in Africa.

  7. Sample for PPT (Cont’d) • Poem: Free-floating water meandering down How can it possibly flow? Pure and soulful, water fills every part of our bodies Our minds, our spirits, our souls, every which way we linger to go. Water is pure, so why is it that So many dirty puddles have contaminated our hearts? Why are there haves and have-nots? If we are all just made of water in the catacombs of every body part Water fills everyone, so it should all be pure We are all made of the same free-floating substance With noble intentions and daring, caring motives No one is dirty, no one is unclean, there are no hints Our rivers and streams shouldn’t be polluted Likewise, spiritual hopes and dreams Shall never be convoluted Make our water as clean as our hearts Cleanse it as you would your souls Every single one of us has something in common --Help the liquid that makes our precious Earth rock and roll.

  8. Sample PPT (Cont’d) • How I Will Know I’ve Met My Goal: • If I have high sales • If I earn a lot of money from my poems • If I get positive feedback and earn a good reputation on at least a local level • If I use my earnings, donate them to an African charity for water purification, and they use the endowments wisely. • When a higher percentage of water is deemed “clean.”

  9. Sample PPT (Cont’d) • My Connection: • Like Mr. Elliott Bowser combining his artistry and philanthropy, I blended my two loves of creative writing and cleansing Earth’s water. • Mr. Bowser presented his idea through artwork and I presented mine through writing. • We both expressed our innermost thoughts and opinions, just in different ways, in order to get our message across.

  10. Sample PPT (Cont’d) • Conclusion: • By using talents as a creative outlet for expressing what we believe in, anyone can make a difference in the world. • It all starts with one step at a time; start small and then expand your horizons. • If we really try, we can all change the world.

  11. Sample PPT (Cont’d) • Quote: • “I cannot change the world, but if I cast a stone in the river, it will create many ripples in the water.” ---Mother Teresa
