Ideas • Is it an interesting topic? • Focused on a main idea (funneled?) • Has supporting details that stick to the topic • Has sensory language • Highlight these in yellow • Shows (not tells) • Reader learns some information not previously known • Organization______________ • Begins the paper with an interesting hook • Underline it in blue • Has an introduction-giving a little background information • Underline in pink • Has a clear beginning, middle, and ending • Paragraphs are indented --when time, idea, or place change or someone speaks • Put a star at the beginning of each new paragraph • Told in order (sequence) • TRANSITIONS!!!underline in purple • Ex • Has a conclusion-ending sums up main ideas (My Family Has a Weird Dog)…use a memory, feeling, hope, a wish, or a dream as an ending (pick 2) • Highlight in red
