TNHS Graduation Requirements • Earn a total of 225 credits • Pass specific subject requirements • English: 40 credits (4 years) • History/Social Science: 30 credits (3 years) • Math: 30 credits (3 years) • Laboratory Science: 20 credits (2 years) • Fine Art or Language Other Than English: 10 credits (1 year) • Career Technical Education (CTE): 10 credits (1 year) • Physical Education: 20 credits (2 years) • Health: 5 credits (1 semester) • Electives: 60 credits

  5. Graduation Credit Check • Seniors in good academic standing should have 180 credits to date • Minimum number of credits required for senior status is 165 • See your counselor for transcript review

  6. Credit Recovery Options • APEX • Online program (i.e. BYU Independent Study or California Virtual Academy) • Community College Concurrent Enrollment Important: All courses must be completed with official transcripts submitted by May 15th

UC/CSU Eligibility Requirements (“a-g”) • History/Social Science – 2 years • English – 4 years • Math – 3 years* (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or MC1, MC2, MC3) • Lab Science – 2 years* (1 year life & 1 year physical) • Language Other Than English – 2 years* (same language) • Visual & Performing Arts – 1 year • College Prep Elective – 1 year *additional years of subject recommended Must earn a “C” grade or better both semesters

  8. Am I Eligible for UC/CSU? • Minimum of 15 yearlong “a-g” courses in grades 9-12 • Seven of these courses must be taken in the last two years of high school • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in “a-g” coursework • SAT Reasoning Test with Essay or ACT with Writing

Applying to UC’s • Apply online: www.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply • Filing period: November 1st-November 30th • Students may access the online application now! • Fee: $70 per campus • UC will waive application fees for up to 4 campuses for qualified students • Application includes a personal statement • Choose 4 out of 8 short-answer questions • 350 word maximum/question

  10. Applying to CSU’s • Apply online: www.csumentor.edu • Filing period: October 1st-November 30th • Fee: $55 per campus • CSU will waive application fees for up to 4 campuses to qualified students

Private Colleges & Universities • Check individual admission requirements • SAT or ACT with Writing usually required • SAT Subject Tests may be required • Most require essays, letters of recommendation, and transcript • May require supplemental information (i.e. portfolio) • Many accept the Common Application • www.commonapp.org • May require mid-year report submissions

Financial Aid/Scholarships Overview • File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) www.fafsa.ed.gov Beginning: October 1, 2016 Deadline: March 2, 2017 • JUHSD will automatically submit GPA to Cal Grant on October 1, 2016 • To opt out, please submit Opt Out Form by September 14, 2016 Take Action Now: • Create a FSA ID (parents and students) and save www.fsaid.ed.gov • Complete FAFSA4caster for estimate of federal aid www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov
