  3. Grade Level Expectations • It is our expectation that all students will come prepared for school, ready to learn, and with a positive attitude. Students who come with required materials every day, homework completed on time and with a positive attitude are likely to succeed 100% of the time.

Mathematics Curriculum • Unit 1 Order of Operations And Whole Numbers • Unit 2 Decimals-place value, rounding, adding, subtracting, and converting from decimals to fractions • Unit 3 Multiplying and Dividing Decimals • Unit 4 Fractions – equivalent fractions, simplifying, adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators, converting fractions to decimals, estimating, and multiplying and dividing. • Unit 5 Geometry: Coordinate System • Unit 6 Geometry: 2D Figures ***Please be sure to know your multiplication facts!

Social Studies Curriculum • Unit 1 Concepts Used in Fifth Grade Social Studies • Unit 2 Effective Citizenship-Introduction • Unit 3 The Civil War: The Nation Divided • Unit 4 Reconstruction: The Nation Reunited • Unit 5 Bigger, Better, Faster: The Changing Nation • Unit 6 Ups and Downs: World War I, the Jazz Age, & the Great Depression • Unit 7 Hot & Cold: World War II & Its Aftermath • Unit 8 Overcoming the Past: The Age of Civil Rights • Unit 9 Understanding the News: What is America’s role in the 21st century world? • Unit 10 Effective Citizenship: Conclusion • Please note -Current events is an ongoing citizenship assignment that the students must complete on a weekly basis. Students must find appropriate news articles to read and to write a brief summary of the information. The summaries should be turned in bi-weekly. Students will be given a template and rubric for this assignment in August.

Discipline Procedures Infraction one: Verbal Reminder (-5pts) Infraction two: Silent Lunch or no recess (-10pts) Infraction three: Detention(If the student accumulates three infractions within the course of One school day, they will be assigned one or more hours of detention (-15 pts) Infraction four: Counselor referral and schedule a formal team conference (including student, parent, principal and/or support teacher) (-20pts) Infraction five: (-25pts) If the student accumulates five or more infractions within the course of one week, they will be assigned one or more hours of detention depending upon the infraction as outlined on the Richmond County Detention form. Detention or OfficeOffice referral and or detention (Some infractions may result in an automatic office referral and or detention) any student acting in a dangerous, illegal or insubordinate manner will be referred to the office immediately. ***Students begin each week with a 100 in conduct , the weekly grades are averaged together at the end of each nine weeks period.

  9. Communication • Communication is the key to making any partnership work. • Please feel free to send in notes or emails requesting conferences to express concerns.

  10. Summer Activities • Please make sure that your student has his/ her summer assignments ready to turn in on the first day of school. Any late assignments will result in a deduction of points as outlined in the C.T. Walker handbook.

  11. Welcome to Fifth Grade • We have many exciting projects, activities, and trips planned for this year. If you are interested in participating, please be sure to have an up to date volunteer training card. Please see Mrs. Jenny Landrum for training information. • Please scan the Q reader to update contact and transportation information • Please review your child’s health card and make any needed changes. • Any questions? • Please stop by Mrs. Garrett(science) and Mrs. Willis’(ELA) class to meet them as they will also be teaching your child this year as well.
