  1. Columbine High School Massacre

  2. About the Disaster • Name: Columbine High School Massacre • Natural or Human made?: Human made • Total Deaths: 15 (including the perpetrators) • Total Injured: 21 • Happened Tuesday, April 20th, 1999. • Located in Columbine, Colorado.

  3. Damages to the High School • Windows were shattered • Walls missing chunks • Melted chairs in the cafeteria • Blackened floors • Carpet stripped from the stairs • Bullet holes throughout the entire school

  4. Why it Happened • Two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, were seeking revenge on their classmates for bullying them. • The possibility of hate crimes towards Christians.

  5. How it Happened • They started off by planting a small fire bomb, half a mile away from the school, in order to distract everyone, including the fire department. • They then carried in two 20 pound propane bombs, wrapped in blue duffel bags, and planted them in the cafeteria. The bombs did not kill anyone, they scared them all out of the cafeteria. • Klebold and Harris then armed themselves with handguns and shotguns and began shooting at their classmates and anyone in their path. • Klebold and Harris then committed suicide.

  6. Why It Could Happen Again • Bullying still occurs in schools and goes unnoticed often. • Hate crimes can still occur in schools as well. • Students experiment with drugs more often which have negative impacts on their mental process, provoking them to act negatively.

  7. What’s Interesting • The school had just been re-done • Revenge on the school board?
