  1. Vision: The Energy Center in Discovery Park will facilitate high-impact multidisciplinary projects in support of Purdue’s vision to be one of the global leaders in energy Mission: Enable a smooth energy transition with novel ideas, innovations, technologies, analysis and policies Help Purdue educate the next generation of energy specialists Contribute to energy literacy among the American people Encourage K-12 students towards science, technology, engineering and mathematics majors for priming a part of the energy specialist pipeline

  2. SEPAE Clean Coal Solar Bio Energy Wind Electrochemical Power Electronics Hydrogen Nuclear Global Partnerships Energy Center Portfolio of Expertise

  3. BIOENERGY SYSTEMS Goal: Cost-effective, environmentally responsible energy from plants and trees Outcome: World’s most efficient cellulosic ethanol producing yeast System design which reduces land-mass requirement for transportation fuel and eliminates incremental CO2 production Reduced reliance on food crops for fuel

  4. HYDROGEN SYSTEMS Goal: Enable the hydrogen economyOutcome: System for generating on-demand hydrogen which achieves DOE onboard energy-density goal Person portable hydrogen-generation systems Prototype high-pressure on-board vehicle hydrogen storage system DOE Safety Certified hydrogen systems lab

  5. SEPAE Social, Economic, and Political Aspects of Energy Use and Policy an Energy Center niche • Goal: • Inform research scientists, politicians, and the public of the system-level impacts of new energy technologies, policy alternatives, and cost/benefit trade-offs • Outcome: • Seed Grant Program Results in $1.4 million funding from DOE & NSF • Analysis of Global Economic and Environmental Impacts of a Substantial Increase in Bioenergy Production • Social, Economic, and Political Aspects of U.S. Ethanol Policy • Energy models used as basis for energy legislation introduced in US Congress
