  2. State Profile • Net Sown Area - 5.8 lacs hectare • (10% G.A.) • Dependence on Agriculture - 69% • Contribution to SDP - 25% • Small/ Marginal Farmer - 84.5% • Irrigation - 20% • Cropping Intensity - 177%

  3. Rabi Prospects 2004-2005 ¥Good rainfall upto January and excessive rains/ snowfall from February. ¥Damage to vegetables, fruit plants and wheat. ¥Expected production 7.6 lac tonnes of foodgrains compared to 5.27 lac tonnes.

  4. Preparations for Kharif 2005 Target of foodgrains 10.31 lac tonnes in 4.20 lac hectare. Vegetables 5 lac tonnes. 19,000 Qtls. seeds arranged from NSC and Private. Fertilizers arranged except CAN. Credit disbursement target Rs.500 Crores .

Thrust Areas Crop diversification 50,000 hectare area to be diversified by 2010 (Fruits, Vegetable, Spices, Medicinal Plants). Expansion of area under HYV/ Hybrids of Maize, vegetables. 90% area under HYV, 40% under hybrids. Natural resource management through watershed (IWDP/ RDD/ NWDPRA). On farm water management, efficient irrigation, water harvesting (Macro, HTM, RIDF, IWDP).

  8. Mechanisation- Power tiller, small tractor, other implements/ tools. Insurance coverage for horticulture crops. [ICICI- Lombard (Apple, Mango, Tomato and Potato)]. Transfer of technology through public-private partnership (ATMA Model). Women empowerment for decision making. Promotion of Organic Farming (Pilot Project).

  9. APMC Act Act being amended. Provision for direct marketing, private markets and contract farming made. Bill being introduced and shall be passed in the current budget session.

  10. National Horticulture Mission NHM Sanctioned in August, 2003. Mini Mission-I:  Rs.3.13 crores sanctioned for R&D. 21 projects sanctioned/ under execution. Mini Mission-II: Rs.19.50 crore sanctioned in 2003-2005. Expenditure incurred Rs. 16.25 crores. Funds required for 2005-2006 Rs.40 crores. Mini Mission-III & IV: Projects are under consideration of GOI.

  11. Micro Irrigation Micro irrigation taken up under Macro, HTM, ISOPOM and State Plan.  Rs.150 lacs shall be spent in 2005-2006.  1,000 sprinkler and 500 drip irrigation schemes to be executed.  Micro Irrigation linked with TIS, Shallow wells.

  12. ATMA (N.A.T.P.) (Rs. in lacs) State Government willing to expand ATMA model to other districts.  Request to Start NATP Phase-II/ to cover remaining districts.

  13. Impact of N.A.T.P. Information level of farmers and extension workers upgraded. Strong R-E-F linkages developed. SREP through bottom up planning helped in solving problems. Public-private partnership developed. Farmers ownership of programme and cost sharing. Decentralised approach helped in quick decision making. Institutions like FO’s., FIG, SHG transformed agri. into agri-business.

  14. Issues  A/A and release of funds under C.S.S. in April. Quality Control in Organic Manures. Supply of CAN. Uniform norms under C.S.S.  Approval of Diversified Agriculture Project.
