  3. Requirements for SC Public Colleges and UniversitiesStudent Handbook pg. 29 • English: Four units (must include English Literature and American Literature) • Math: Four units. Including Algebra 1, II and Geometry. A fourth unit in a higher level mathematics should be taken in the senior year. • Lab Science: Three units – Two units must be taken in two different fields • Social studies: Three units including one unit of US History, ½ unit of Economics and ½ unit of Government • World Languages: Two units of the same foreign language, Clemson, & CofC three • Physical Education or JROTC • Fine Arts 1 unit (Chorus, Drama, Art) • Academic Electives: One academic unit must be taken as an elective. Computer science is strongly recommended. Other acceptable electives include English, fine arts, foreign language, social science, humanities, laboratory science or higher level math.

Effective with the 2009 entering class, the university will begin considering the writing portion of the SAT. • On the ACT With Writing, a composite score of 19 is required with a minimum of 17 on the English subsection, a minimum of 19 on the math subsection and a minimum of 18 on the reading subsection. ACT scores without the Writing component cannot be used for freshman admission decisions. • All applicants must submit the SAT or the ACT With Writing test. While UF cannot mix scores from old and new tests, the university will accept the highest subscores from the new SAT if you took the new test multiple times. The university cannot mix or combine any ACT subscores.
