  2. Crossroads residents are… Young adults who have often experienced significant life trauma & are at-risk for homelessness, incarceration & institutionalization. Parent-Child Center, Inc. 2

  3. Crossroads provides… A life coach who assists each resident in learning skills necessary to become independent & self sufficient members of society in a supportive, nurturing & attractive environment. Linkage to community resources, including jobs and education. Psychiatric treatment and individual therapy Parent-Child Center, Inc. 3

  4. Admission Criteria • Age 18-23 • Have the cognitive, physical and emotional stability to live in an adult setting. • Have a Axis I and/or II diagnosis that interferes with his/her functioning • Are in need of transitional housing and life skills training to become self sufficient • Are able to work and/or attend an educational program with the purpose of obtaining a high school diploma, GED or vocational certificate • Adjudicated dependent or would otherwise be homeless Parent-Child Center, Inc.

  5. 4 Townhomes – Scattered Site • Purchased 4 townhomes with restricted capital from NeighborWorks America and mortgages through BankAtlantic. • Paid off one mortgage each year for past 3 years through generous support of Quantum Foundation. • Services are funded through the generous support of the SAMH office of Florida Department of Children and Families. • Residents pay sliding scale rent. Parent-Child Center, Inc.

  6. Outcomes • Crossroads has served over 75 youth since opening in December 2006. • 71% of discharged youth have maintained bank accounts and develop a monthly budget and save 25% of their monthly income. • 100 % of youth that have left Crossroads are continuing their education. • Over 50% of youth discharged continue to reach out to their life coach after discharge. • Crossroads has a 0% rate of homelessness after youth leave the program! Challenges… • Severe mental health issues that require a residential setting • Youth that want to live without rules • Drugs/ alcohol • Gang interference • Interference from biological families • No job skills • Below grade level, learning disorders • Limited state funds for mentally ill adults Parent-Child Center, Inc.
