  4. Simple Carbohydrates • Sugars found in: • Fruits • Vegetables • Milk • Honey • Maple syrup • Refined sugars

  5. Complex Carbohydrates • Aka starches, long chains of sugar linked together • vegetables (i.e., potatoes, dry beans, peas, and corn) • Breads • Cereals • Grains

  6. Whole Grain • all of the parts of the grain seed • Contain nutrients and fiber • Refined grains: • Processed grains that have less nutrients and fiber

  7. Fiber • Type of complex carbohydrates that the body can’t digest

  8. Soluble fiber • dissolves in water • can help lower glucose levels • lower blood cholesterol

  9. Insoluble Fiber • does not dissolve in water • help food move through your digestive system • prevent constipation.
