  5. Bi-Weekly Pay • Earnings received every other week on specific days

  6. Check Stub • Paper showing earnings and deductions from a payroll check

  8. Commission • A percentage of sales paid to an employee

  9. Contract Labor • Agreement to complete a job for an amount of money

  10. Co-Worker • A person who works with you

  11. Deduction • Amount of money taken from an employee’s gross pay for taxes, insurance, social security, and other benefits

  12. Discrimination • Someone unfairly because of his or her race, religion, or sex

  13. Employer • The person who has hires someone to do a job

  14. Employment Agency • A service business designed to help put employees and employers together

  15. FICA • Federal Insurance Contribution Act (Social Security)

  16. Follow-Up Letter • A thank you letter written following an interview

  17. Fringe Benefits • Extras provided by employers (other than wages)

  18. Gross Pay • The total amount of an employee’s earnings before deductions are taken out

  20. Interview • A formal meeting between an employer and job applicant about a job opening

  21. Job Lead • Any information about possible job openings

  22. Letter of Application • An introductory letter written to a prospective employer

  32. Salary • Fixed amount of money earned, regardless of hours worked

  33. Screen out • To eliminate unwanted applicants

  34. Sick Leave • Cumulative time given to employees as sick days with pay

  35. Union • A group of workers who collectively bargain for higher wages, improved benefits, and better working conditions

  36. Union Dues • Fees charged by an organization to unite employees

  37. Wage • Payment for work, usually figured by the hour

  38. Work Ethic • Rules of behavior in the workplace

  39. Year-To-Date • Money accounted from January 1st through the current pay period
