  1. שנאה • HATE

  2. Definition of hatred • 1. Feeling intense or passionate dislike for someone • 2. Intense or passionate dislike

  3. Sources for hatred • אבן עזרא– הפך ‘׳ואהבת לרעך כמוך’’He says that hatred is the opposite of love your friend like you love yourself • מסכת ערכין–שנאה שבלב הכתוב מדבר Hatred in the heart is what it means when it says hatred • רמבם–לא תשנא את אחיך בלבו You cant hate your friend in your heart

  4. What is hatred? • Hatred is when you despise someone in your heart. It’s not when you decide, she was mean to me so I hate her. You actually hate them and don't want them to succeed in anything they do. You shouldn't hate the heart of someone else/ your brother.

  5. Examples • In the Torah it says,If you come across your enemy's ox or donkey going astray, you must certainly bring it back to him. If you see your foe’s donkey lying under its load and you refrain from helping him, you must certainly help him. (Shemot 23:4-5). That means if you come across an ox of your enemy’s that is going somewhere else, you should bring him back and put him on the right path. You should not refrain from helping the animal of your enemy just because you hate them. • Another example of hatred was the Beit Hamikdash was destroyed. This was one of the holiest places and Hashem wanted to destry it because people had baseless hatred. Even though there was no reason for them to be hating each other they still did which ended up destroying one of the holiest places.

  6. Lessons • We can learn from this that you shouldn't hate anyone from your heart, or wish them bad. Even if you don't like them you don't need to hate them. You can wish for them to succeed in what they do and wish for that not to affect you in any other way. • If you realize that this is not a way to live life because it is very negative and change your perspective by doing ואהבת לרעך כמוך. Wish them the best in everything they do.
