  2. Good News 3/15/102 1. What kind of weather was covered in the UK of 2012? It was flooding. 2. Designer Wayne Hemingway thought broadcasters should look for more good news rather than the disasters and grim events. 3. Tabloids means newspapers with small format of news, but with lots of pictures and sensational material. Broadsheets means serious newspapers with a larger page format.

  3. The worst place to be a mother 4/11/102 1. According to the Guinness Book of Record, how old was the oldest woman to give birth in the world? It was 66-year-old Maria del Carmen Bousada Lara from Spain in 2006. 2. Niger is at the epicentre of the food emergency. 3. Save the Children identifies Norway as the best place to be a mother.

  4. Animal species ‘extinction crisis’ 4/19/102 1. The dodo bird became extinct in the late 1600’s. 2. 35,000 animals and plants are already protected by the CITES (Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species) 3. If the government of each country won’t take more effective step to stop poaching, some populations of elephants and rhino will face extinction.

Ben Hur, Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of The King have won the most Oscar awards-11 awards. 2. Why we love a film that makes us cry? A film score composer, Mr. Philip Sheppard thought all of us need to find a “catharsis” within a group. When watching a sad film, people’s emotional responses are much more instantaneously responsive.

  6. Random acts of kindness 5/9/102 1. What is the most commonly broken New Year’s resolution? It was stopping smoking, only 15% of people who stop smoking in January actually succeed. 2. American schoolchildren were asked to carry out three random acts of kindness each week. 3. At the end of the four weeks, these kind acts not only had boosted the children’s wellbeing, but also shifted the dynamics of the whole classroom.

  7. Is silence golden? 5/17/102 1. An airport ground staff worker has the most exposure to noise. Jet engines in landing and take-off are subjected to 140 decibels of sound in one go. 2. Some people may call a sound just noise whereas others may say it’s music to their ears- a beautiful sound. 3. “Silence is golden” actually means it’s often better to say nothing at all than say something stupid.

  8. UK’s first healthy pizza 6/26/102 1. The world record for the largest pizza ever made was set in South Africa in 1990, it was 37.4m long, and weighed 12 tons. 2. Entrepreneur Donnie Maclean and Professor Mike Lean from Glasgow University, Scotland designed a healthy pizza which was made of Hebridean seaweed.
