Preamble to 221 • Preamble to 221: • Thursday 1-1:50 instead of Friday 1-1:50? • Clickers: register and $20 • smartPhysics: • https://www.smartphysics.com/ • Course access key: 221s14 • Instructor and course home pages: http://webspace.ship.edu/alcres/ • Labs and exams: Exam 1 and 2 will take place during Lab (see syllabus for dates) • Study habits. • Study the class material the same day it is covered in class. Do not wait! • Establish a schedule of study (eg 6 times a week for 1 ½ hours – this is a 5 credit course) and study physics during these times even if nothing is due. • Physics require very little memorization and thus until you have actually understood the material and can apply it, you will have nothing to show for your work: there is a threshold of time, different for everybody, that must be spent studying. In everyday language this is when things “click”. You must study enough to reach that point. • Do not hesitate to come and see me for advice, especially if you are overwhelmed.
