  1. Step 1: Scan Handwriting Without Tears (HWT) letters. • Save scanned letters onto a jump drive or your computer • Open Smart Notebook and select “insert copy of file.” • Find your scanned HWT letter and insert. • Copy the letter and paste on a new page and make it the preferred size. • After adjusting the size, copy and paste • Right Click the letter and select “lock in place.”

Step 2: Adding the Student’s Name • Add the name (Ex: “Jack”) • Copy and paste each letter and scramble above correctly spelled name. • Right click each scrambled letter, select “locking and then select “allow to move.” • Linking letters to sounds • You can record or voice memo the sounds of each letter and email them to yourself and save to your jump drive or your computer. • Right click on the letter and select “link” and select “file on this computer.” • Select “object” next to “launch by clicking” and select “ok” • After you test the sound source, right click the letter and select “lock in place.” • Repeat for each letter of the students name.

  3. Step 3: Phonics Song Link • Search for “Learning Station Phonics Song” (On Google or You Tube.) • Copy the URL in the address bar • Return to Smart Notebook • Select “Insert”, “Hyperlink” • Paste the URL and assign a display name.
