  7. EXPECTATIONS • Must have required materials • Academic Honesty • RESPONSIBILITY • Participation in activities/discussion • RESPECT • All students start out with an S in citizenship

  8. GRADING • Basic point system and grading scale (90%-100%=A) • Projects/Unit Packets/Current Events will go down 10% each day they are late • Late HW is given partial credit • Stamps

  9. CHAPTER PACKETS • Each chapter has its own section • Cover Page (Unit title/ standard/relevant illustrations) • Table of Contents • Turned in at the end of each chapter and graded • Kept in back of room until Trimester Exam

  10. CURRENT EVENT PRESENTATIONS • Three times throughout the year • Once per trimester • Students were assigned dates • Select current news article • Fill out graphic organizer • 1-2 minute presentation to class about the event

  11. EXAMS and PROJECTS • Test is given at the end of each chapter • There will be a cumulative exam at the end of each trimester • Example projects this year • Music Video for Bill of Rights • Facebook Biography Project • North vs. South Board game • Civil War scrapbook

  12. STUDY TECHNIQUES • Common Core • Much larger focus on close/active reading and argumentative writing • Evidence-Based products • Emphasis on WHY and HOW

  13. STUDY TECHNIQUES • Terms list posted on website at the beginning of each unit • Flash Cards: BOSTON MASSACRE WHO: Angry colonists vs. British red coats (led by Cpt. John Preston) WHAT: Rioters attacked redcoats leading to shots being fired (5 dead—1st victim was Crispus Attucks) WHEN: March 5, 1770 WHERE: Boston, Mass (King’s street) WHY: Rising tensions b/c of Britain's harsh ruleled to a triallawyer was John Adams (innoncent on basis of self-defense)Paul Revere called it a “bloody massacre”
