  1. Impact of Competition on Children

  2. In the modern times, where every day there are technological advancements that are taking place and along with the ever so growing population around the world, the word “competition” is used every day in all walks of life. Children at school face equal heat because of this word. From performing well in academics to performing equally well in the other activities at school, competition with fellow classmates or schoolmates makes it mandatory for every child to win and not settle with anything other than the first spot. For some parents, competition is wrong, because according to them it brings too much stress upon the kid to be the best and completely eradicates the importance of participating in the competition and experiencing life rather than always being on the run. But some of the parents believe that the competition is very healthy for kids. As it motivates them and keeps them always focused on the goal. In particular, it teaches them how to conduct themselves when they win and how to digest the loss and move on with a positive spirit. Whether the kid engages in competitive sports or academic contests or competes in other ways, they learn to push their limits and thrive to complete the task at hand. Cambridge school Noida is one of the best school in Noida and at our school, we do not pressurize children as we understand each child is unique and has a different pace of learning. Benefits and Drawbacks The parents who are against building competitiveness in kids, or in a way one might say they are insecure in exposing their kids to the world, believe

  3. that competition is destructive. These parents argue upon even letting their kids participate in the smallest and simplest of games, therefore they very often don’t declare anybody victorious of competition or even refer to everybody as the winner. According to some specialists, turning low-stakes activities into competitions is bad for kids but other specialists have found that competitions do very little to motivate kids. Some of the various of the benefits include: · Competitions enhance play: Play island has always been the greatest setting for learning skills and further integrating those skills in the real world scenario. · Competition brings about excitement: Any child learns better when he/she is excited about knowing the facts about a particular thing. Hence, a competitive environment becomes apt for developing one’s skills because it pushes one to always bring about the best in them. · Competition brings cooperation: In This modern times, when technological advancements have brought about the introduction of mobile phones and social media, individualism has become a very potent reason for the isolation of the child. Hence the ability of the child to work with others to achieve a common goal is the most important skill to be developed not just in sports but also in the practical life. It allows the child to develop social cooperation without the display of aggression.

  4. · Competition teaches to control emotion: With sports or in real-life scenarios, failure and success are the two inevitable facts. Hence, with success comes happiness and failure brings disappointment and sorrows, which disturbs the emotion of the individual, but to learn to control emotion in failure is something that one can develop only by competing frequently. Control and competition are correlated. · Competition inspires creativity: The competitive atmosphere and the eagerness to win makes an individual think out of the box and then develops creativity and their problem solving skills. A few Drawbacks are as follows: · Develops hostility and aggression: Making winning the only option can easily manifest aggressive behavior, losing the sportsmanship and eventually cheating to achieve the desired result. · Leads to Dropout: Dropping out doesn't always get associated with leaving school/ academics but not willing to participate in play can also be associated with dropping. The inability of the individual to win, results in drop outs. · Triggers injury: The high intensity during competition at times lead to aggression and which can cause injuries.

  5. · Ego deflating: In a competition one will succeed and the other will lose. But in many cases it makes the competition a matter of ego satisfaction.
