Increasing capacity and reliability of the Waalbrug and K. Traianusplein

Currently there are two same level junctions on the Traianusplein for traffic from and to the Waalbrug: T1 (north) and T2 (south) This causes conflict with crossing flows and limits capacity and reliability of the Traianusplein.

  1. Currently there are two same level junctions on the Traianusplein for traffic from and to the Waalbrug: T1 (north) and T2 (south) • This causes conflict with crossing flows and limits capacity and reliability of the Traianusplein. Increasing capacity and reliability of the Waalbrug and K. Traianusplein

  2. I/C ratios Evening peak 2020 Increasing capacity and reliability of the Waalbrug and K. Traianusplein

  3. Current situation on Keizer Traianusplein Increasing capacity and reliability of the Waalbrug and K. Traianusplein Current situation on T1 Current situation on T2

  4. Facilliate a left turn over a viaductin order to relieve pressure on former left turn route. Redesign Keizer Traianusplein

  5. Future situation on Keizer Traianusplein Increasing capacity and reliability of the Waalbrug and K. Traianusplein Future situation on T1 Future situation on T2

  6. Effects (Qualitative) • Capacity of T2 will increase by 15% for straight traffic from the Singels to the Waalbrug. This relieves congestion on the Singels for outgoing traffic. • Capacity for left turning traffic from the Waalbrug increases, which will reduce spillback to the Waalbrug. This will improve travel times for all Waalbrug users. • Traffic to Nieuwe Ubbergseweg (left turn from Waalbrug) will no longer use T2 and former congested road segments before and after this crossing. This relieves congestion on those parts of the Traianusplein. • Waiting times for T1 will no longer exist due to multi-level crossing. • However: Effects limited if capacity Waalbrug stays at current level Redesign Keizer Traianusplein

  8. Facilitating an extra lane using the current cycle path • Dedicated for users taking first exit after Waalbrug • (direction Bemmel/Waalsprong) • Estimated capacity:1500 veh/hour • Estimated demand: 700 veh/hour in peak hours • Total length 1,3 km • PICTURE OF THE LANE Increasing capacity Waalbrug in northern direction

  9. Facilitating an extra lane using the current bus lane • Dedicated for users taking the right turn to the city center after the Waalbrug • Estimated capacity:1500 veh/hour • Estimated demand: 350 veh/hour in peak hours • Total length 1,3 km • PICTURE OF THE LANE Increasing capacity Waalbrug in northern direction
