  5. SUBREFLECTOR –MIRROR procurement • AEM could agree to integrate the last definition of the central cone, as per documentation received from ESO (ESO-AEM TM#34). Nevertheless this is subject to receive from ESO the corresponding explanation ( no further change) and the ESO Change Request as mentioned on AEM-ESO TM#22. • AEM is completing final negotiation with the pre-selected subcontractor. • Design taken into account for last negotiations includes the definition for the central cone as per ESO-AEM TM#34. • The control plan definition is to be discussed and defined between AEM and ESO.

After design of the feed shutter first concept by EIE, various subcontractors have been consulted by AAS-F for manufacturing: • Quotations for the procurement of the feed shutter have been received, which led to the conclusion that the initial concept was both complex and expensive. • Proposals for both evolutions of the initial concept and new concepts have also been submitted to AAS-F by the considered subcontractors. • The following rationale is being followed by AEM: • The initial concept is being kept as a baseline with no additional developments while alternative solutions are being designed and assessed by AAS-F/ EIE common agreement. • With the support of the Design & Engineering authority, the choice of both the selected design and the manufacturer will be done by the end of September / beginning of October. • The manufacturing of a qualification prototype will immediately begin by mid-October at the latest. • The final detailed design and the relevant documentation of the feed shutter will be presented within the PPDR data package. • The complete results of the qualification process (stress tests and assembly / dis-assembly / maintenance tests) will be probably presented at a later date, without any criticality for the Project.
