Background (1) Before: all pre- and post-experience degrees = > “MBA” Now: clearer distinction MBA: only open for managers with career history MiM/MiB: mainly aimed at recent graduates with non-business background MiM/MiB “tradition” started in Europe, but now global phenomenon with own ranking (FT, 2010) Information session 16/05/2012 | pag. 5

Background (2) Main objective of the MiM/MiB: give business knowhow to (recent) graduates from a variety of backgrounds But: also open for people with experience Stronger focus on obtaining analytical skills (<-> MBA: more focus on strategic skills) Clearer value proposition from a recruiter’s point of view Information session 16/05/2012 | pag. 6

Master thesis (1) Deadline for subject/title submission: 30 November Master thesis fair: end of October Presentation of faculty departments Presentation of potential topics (list will be made available the same day) Avoid contacting the academic staff before the thesis fair… …but try to develop some ideas yourself by reading the FT, Economist, HBR,… Last year every student got the subject he/she wanted Information session 16/05/2012 | pag. 10

Master thesis (2) Master thesis coordinator: Ms Sibel Aydogan: siaydoga@vub.ac.be For all questions regarding the master thesis Plagiarism is a serious academic offense All master thesis are uploaded to Turnitin Some assignments also (HRM) More than 20 cases of plagiarism last year! Internships (1) Not compulsory in the program Faculty does not administratively support internships outside credit contracts In other words: MiM/MiB students wanting to perform an internship need to enroll for an additional credit (with reporting requirements at the end to obtain the credit) Information session 16/05/2012 | pag. 13

Internships (2) However, an internship can be accepted if: It is linked to the study domain and the tasks are in line with the level of the study degree So no lower skilled admin work Administrative handling by the VUB Career Center (location ground floor building B) Search for an internship Contract arrangements Contact: dr.
