UCLA Performance Video – Open Captioning Arabic to English CASE STUDY
Art Makes The World Go Round: Art is enjoyed by millions of people around the world, it adds beauty to life. At CaptioningStar we offer captioning and translation services to help make art accessible to all.
Executive Summary: UCLA Arts – An unit of UCLA, they curate the annual season of live performances, showcasing artists from all around the world with an emphasis on contemporary arts and artists. Scope: Fred Frumberg, Deputy Director, reached out to our team with a requirement to open caption a 48-minute long bilingual performance video with Arab parts in it, he needed our assistance in Translating and Captioning the Arab Sections of the performance to English. Our talented and dynamic team was more than happy to help him with the same.
Our Journey: With just a few emails, we were able to understand the client requirements and move forward. But due to management issues on the client’s end, we did not hear from them for a while. Static silence can make any adult nervous. Mr Fred got back in touch with us just in time to complete the task he had entrusted us to do.
He shared the 48-minutes long clip via Box.com and our team reviewed and began work on the open captioning for the same. The project was completed and delivered just in time for the client to review and publish it for their audience. Open Captioning Versus Closed Captioning: Open Captions and Closed Captions are two options available when you want to add captions to your videos. The difference here being, open captions are always in view along with the video it’s supporting and does not have the option of being turned off.
However, closed captions require a device known as the decoder to function. And the decoder has been available in all entertainment devices in the last few decades thanks to recent advancements in technology. Client Feedback: I’m very grateful to the team at CaptioningStar that beautifully pulled off a rather challenging and last-minute project for our video streaming platform. We not only needed standard hearing impaired captioning, but this particular performance also required Arabic to English translation. We had already identified a company to do this but they pulled out at the last minute.
CaptioningStar met the very last minute deadline with professional diligence. The transition between translation and captioning was seamless. They gave us the opportunity to review their work and the corrections we requested were managed immediately. I’m very pleased to have found CaptioningStar and we look forward to the next opportunity of employing their services. For inquiries, please contact us at 707-204-3578
