  2. Piece rate Employees • Piece Rate – Getting paid by the number of items (pieces) you produce • Examples: • Assembly line worker • Auto Mechanic – “book rate” for a repair job • Seamstress

  3. Per Diem Employees • Per Diem is Latin for “By the day” • Per Diem employees are paid by the day • Examples • Substitute teacher • Migrant farm worker • Temp hire: Person sent over to cover for a permanent employee from a “Temp Agency”

  4. Tip Employees • Tip = money given for services provided • Also called a “gratuity” • Examples (see p. 28 for a list) • Waiter/waitress • Cab driver • Airport Skycap • Hair stylist

  5. Calculating a Tip • Tip percent x Total bill = Tip Use a decimal for the tip percent!!! • Tip per item x Number of items = Tip

  6. Example 3 (page 28) • $35.18 dinner bill, leaving a 15% tip $35.18 x (0.15) = 5.277 = $5.28 • $8.47 lunch, leaving a 20% tip
