  1. Prof Ann Anderson • Research Areas: • Fluid Mechanics • Heat Transfer • Aerogels http://eande.lbl.gov/ECS/Aerogels/images/FLOWER.JPG

  2. Project 1: Test Catalytic Abilities of Various Metal Oxide Aerogels • Join Aerogel Group (ME and Chem Students) • Use existing catalytic test system to study the effectiveness of different aerogel material. • Figure out how to cast the aerogels onto/into usable forms.

  3. Project 2: Redesign Catalytic Test System • Join Aerogel Group (ME and Chem Students) • Looking for 2 students (Joint w/ Prof Bruno) • Redesign heating system, add humidification, design and build gas mixing system

  4. Project 3: Make Boats go faster? Water Droplet Super-hydrophobic Aerogel Surface BIG Air Bubble reduces Drag • Join Aerogel Group (ME and Chem Students) • Make and characterize superhydrophobic surfaces • Test surfaces in water channel

  5. Project 4: Other? • Will consider supervising wind tunnel/CFD related projects of MOTIVATED students. • Will consider supervising heat transfer related projects of MOTIVATED students. • Other Aerogel Projects: Strengthening aerogels, make and characterize different types of aerogels.
