  2. As businesses and organizations include technology in their operations chain to a larger and larger extent, they generate more and more electronic data. Due to the explosion of the field of data science, they are aware that data can become a really valuable asset if utilized in the right way. For this purpose, more and more companies in various industries and sectors are seeking to hire skilled and competent data scientists. In simple terms, a data scientist is a person who collects and analyzes data for the purpose of extracting some kind of meaningful information from it. In order to do that he has to go through several steps. First of all, he has to find a usable data set of a sufficiently large size. Then he has to manipulate it in several ways so that it becomes suitable for data analysis. This part is called data cleaning, data wrangling, and data processing. Then he can do several things with the modified data set. To learn how to do all these things, one can get a data science certification.

  3. What does a data scientist do? Either he can produce several different kinds of data visualizations such as graphs, charts, and maps from it. This way even laymen who are not familiar with large data sets can view it in an accessible format and spot trends, outliers, and patterns in it. The same data would have appeared incomprehensible to them in the form of hard numbers on huge spreadsheets. He can also use various statistical tools and computer science and mathematical algorithms to analyze the data sets. By doing this he can evaluate the data and extract useful patterns out of it. By studying these patterns with an experienced eye, he can pinpoint emerging trends and communicate those trends to the business management. Thus, he can help business managers make more informed and data-driven decisions.

  4. What are the qualities a data scientist should have? 1. Inquisitive - The field of data science is very fast-moving and changes constantly. The rapid appearance of new breakthroughs and quick innovation means that a data scientist will always have to update his skills and knowledge. So a data scientist should be inquisitive about learning new things such as new algorithms. 2. Critical reasoning - A data scientist has to analyze vast amounts of data objectively and break down complex processes into understandable steps of action. In order to do this, he should have clear and rational thinking which will allow him to form hypotheses about real-world problems and prove or disprove them. So he needs critical reasoning skills.

  5. 3. Creative - A very basic part of a data scientist’s job is to ask creative questions about data and business processes. Creativity is also required when a data scientist has to fine-tune machine learning models. Another part where creativity is required is when a data scientist has to produce visualizations from data that will be intelligible to laymen or non-data science persons. 4. Communicative - A very significant part of a data scientist’s job is to explain the analysis outputs of their data science algorithms to stakeholders who may be non-technical or not well versed in the language of data science. So data scientists should be proficient in business language and in communicating the results of their work in simple terms.

  6. What is the education path of a data scientist? In general, one should first - 1. Get a bachelor’s degree in physics, mathematics, computer science, IT, or related field. This is essential. 2. Get a master’s degree in data science. 73% of the professionals in the field have a master’s degree. 3. Undergo data science training and get a data science certification online. 4. Gain experience in the field of one’s interest. 5. (Optional) Get a doctorate degree. 35% of the professionals in the field have a doctorate degree.
