  2. What does Dialysis do? The main function of dialysis is similar to what your kidneys do: - remove salt, waste and extra water from the body - maintain a safe level of chemicals in blood - helps control blood pressure

  3. Types of Dialysis Hemodialysis - A type of dialysis that uses a special filter to cleanse the blood. During this treatment, blood is passed from the body through a set of tubes to a filter. The cleansed blood is then returned to the body through another set of tubes. Peritoneal Dialysis - A process in which blood is artificially cleansed using a man-made solution that is delivered into and removed from the abdominal cavity.

  4. What is Peritoneal Dialysis? During peritoneal dialysis, blood vessels in your abdominal lining (peritoneum) fill in for your kidneys, with the help of a fluid (dialysate) that flows into and out of the peritoneal space.
