  2. GOOS provides • International and intergovernmental coordination of sustained observations of the oceans • A platform for the generation of oceanographic products and services • A forum for interaction between research, operational, and user communities

  3. GOOS works in partnership with: • IOC, UNEP, WMO and ICSU (Sponsored by) • IGOS, CEOS, GEOSS (Member) IODE, JCOMM, CB and Science (in IOC) Many othersincluding POGO, ICES, PICES, CGMS, National Agencies …(cooperation w/)

I-GOOS-VIII, 13-16 June 2007 • IOC-WMO-UNEP Intergovernmental Committee for GOOS • Goals of this meeting: • Publish a formal benchmark assessment of past and planned, national, regional and global contributions to the Global Ocean Observing System. • Establish substantial, new support for the international coordination that is required to integrate these efforts so that they comprise a sustained system.

  6. I-GOOS-VIII National Reporting • Template (http://www.ioc-goos.org/igoos8reporting) coordinated with JCOMM, OOPC, GCOS, UNFCCC and will feed into those reporting processes • Requests information about Observations (both global and coastal), Data Management and data streams, Products and Services, and Coordination at international, regional, and national levels

  7. I-GOOS-VIII National Reporting • The IOC/WMO focal points for the I-GOOS meeting have been informed about the SOT national reports as an input; and will be forwarded these reports • But one purpose of the national reports was to foster intra-country coordination and so the SOT national focal points are encouraged to contact the I-GOOS national representative:http://www.ioc-goos.org/i-goosor the IOC delegation (list linked from page above) if one has not been appointed
