  2. Asia • The largest and most diverse continent. • Covers 30% of the land area on Earth. • The greatest range of land elevation, the longest coastline, and the most extreme climates.

  3. Africa • The second largest continent. • Covers 1/5 of the total land surface of the earth. • Africa is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Indian Ocean, and the Red Sea.

  4. North America • Third largest continent in the world. • It covers 9,355,000 square miles. • Alaska, United States, Mexico, Canada, and Greenland make up the continent.

  5. South America • The fourth largest continent. • The Rainforest and the Andes mountains are located in South America. • South America has a tropical climate.

  6. Antarctica • Antarctica is the world's fifth largest continent. • Not many people live on the continent because of the harsh environmental conditions. • Wildlife rangers, meteorologists, tradesmen and scientists work there for short periods of time conducting research.

  7. Europe • Second smallest of the continents. • Occupies 1/15 of the world’s area of land. • Europe is bordered by the Artic Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

  8. Australia • Australia is home to many animals such as the koala and the kangaroo. • Australia is one of the largest countries on earth. • Australia is the smallest, flattest, lowest, and driest continent.
