  1. International Baccalaureate Student Presentation

  2. What in the World? • IB stands for International Baccalaureate • IB is a 2-year college preparatory program recognized by public, private, and prestigious universities around the globe • IB has international standards and practices that all authorized schools must follow • IB is a way for students to explore creative skills, get active, and serve their communities through meaningful volunteer work • IB strongly encourages individual thought brought about through an international education • IB is global

  3. Differences Between IB and AP IB • Students are assessed multiple times in all courses, both internally and externally • For a diploma, a student must take a full load of IB courses (at least 6) over two years • IB students can also take AP courses or AP Exams if they wish • IB is scored on a 1-7 scale • Recognized internationally AP • One final examination will determine if the student receives credit • There is no limit to how many or how few courses a student can take • AP students may NOT take IB courses or IB Exams • AP is scored on a 1-5 scale • Beginning to be recognized internationally

  6. Myth busters

  7. Myth #1:“IB kids have no (social) life”

  8. Wrong…

  9. Myth #2:“IB is only for the super smart & brainiacs.”

  10. Not even close… IB kids are just like other students. The IB Diploma Programmes at Stony Point and Westwood include a diverse group of students.

  11. Myth #3: “IB ruins your GPA and lowers your class rank”

  12. IB students who are motivated, disciplined, and rise to the challenge, can get in the top 10% or top 10 in their class. IB courses are weighted, just like AP courses.

  13. Myth #4:“IB is AP on steroids”

  14. IB and AP are very different. IB is more about the “why,” while AP is more about the “what.”

  15. Myth #5:“IB isn’t recognized by ALL colleges, so it isn’t worth it.”

  16. Each college and university is different, and college credit will vary based on your scores and their policies.Research the colleges and universities you are planning on attending.
